How to use this calculator

Enter the quantity of one asset, its buy price and its sell price per coin, using the same quote currency throughout. Enter each fee as a percentage: 0.1 means 0.1%, not 10%. Use the fee on your actual order or fee schedule.

The buy fee is paid on top of the purchase value in the quote currency. The sell fee is deducted from the gross sale proceeds. The entire purchased quantity is sold, with no intervening purchases or transfers.

The calculation, step by step

Let Q be quantity, B be buy price, S be sell price, and b and s be fee rates expressed as decimals (percentage divided by 100).

  • Total invested = Q × B × (1 + b).
  • Gross sale = Q × S; net sale proceeds = Q × S × (1 − s).
  • Profit or loss = net sale proceeds − total invested.
  • Return on investment (%) = profit or loss ÷ total invested × 100.
  • Break-even sell price = B × (1 + b) ÷ (1 − s). This price covers the entered trading fees only.

Worked example: 2 coins bought at 100 and sold at 125

This is a fictional example, in generic quote-currency units. With a 1% buy fee and a 2% sell fee, the purchase costs 200 plus a 2-unit fee: total invested is 202. Gross sale proceeds are 250 and the sell fee is 5, leaving 245.

The profit is 43 and the return on the full 202-unit investment is approximately 21.2871%. The break-even sell price is approximately 103.0612 per coin. A sell price of zero produces a 100% loss of the invested amount.

Scope and precision

This calculator covers a simple spot purchase and sale. It excludes taxes, network and withdrawal fees, slippage beyond the prices you enter, rebates, borrowing, margin, liquidation and perpetual-futures funding. It is not a tax cost-basis report or a prediction of returns.

Enter ordinary decimal numbers without grouping separators or exponent notation. Quantity and buy price must be greater than zero; sell price may be zero. Fee rates must be at least zero and below 100%. Inputs support up to 12 decimal places and values up to 1,000,000,000,000,000. Intermediate arithmetic uses exact decimal fractions; displayed results are rounded to at most 18 decimal places. Nonzero amounts smaller than display precision are marked with < or > rather than shown as zero.

Exchange fees can differ by order type and account tier. Check your own executed trades; the linked fee documentation is an example of how one exchange describes fees and is not an endorsement or a rate used by this calculator.
